First Pres uses a parish structure to help us care for and stay connected to each other and our community. In essence, these are neighborhoods or districts in the Augusta area. The congregation is organized into 17 parishes, which are grouped into five super parishes. Each parish has a leadership team committed to shepherding the members of the parish.
Elders and deacons build relationships with their parish members to provide spiritual encouragement and support. We do this to fulfill the command in 1 Peter 5:2-3 which states: “Shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock.” Every First Pres member has a shepherd. If you do not know who your shepherd is, contact Liz Reid.
The needs of members are met first in the parish. The parish elders, deacons, and members provide support for one another as they face struggles in life, such as illnesses and deaths, in addition to the joys of life, such as pregnancies. We are especially committed to our Hand in Hand families who have long-term, ongoing needs. Click below to see a list of elders and deacons by parish.
Each parish hosts two fellowship events per year to encourage community and deep relationships within the parish.
Parish bible studies make attending a mid-week study convenient and provide opportunity for spiritual growth and encouragement, as well as the opportunity to build relationships.
We want to be a light in our neighborhoods and to engage our communities with the hope of the Gospel. Super parishes host outreach events throughout the year to reach the greater August area. Annual events include the Augusta Egg Hunt, Strengthening the Family Conference, and A Night of Worship. Additionally, Worship With Your Parish is a special evening service in the fall. Instead of one cenratlized service, we gather in five different location for fellowship and worship in our neighborhoods.
