The congregation of First Presbyterian Church was blessed to welcome Dr. Leigh Fleury and his family to our fellowship on October 13. Leigh joined our staff in July as our Director of Music Ministries.
A native of Gahanna, Ohio, (a suburb of Columbus), Leigh served on the staff of Westminster Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Clinton, South Carolina, for more than 13 years as Director of Music and Youth Ministries. He also taught piano and organ lessons through Presbyterian College’s Laurens County Academy of Music.
Leigh holds Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music in organ performance and sacred music. He also holds a BA in music from the Ohio State University.
Prior to moving to Clinton, Leigh served as the Director of Music for First Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Since the age of 15, Leigh has held playing and directing positions in several churches, including: St. Joseph’s Cathedral (Columbus, Ohio), St. John’s Church (Cincinnati, Ohio ), Seton Parish (Pickerington, Ohio ), and St. Matthew’s Church (Gahanna, Ohio ).
When our choir leadership team interviewed the Fleurys, as did the pastors and some of our elders, all agreed that God has graciously provided for us. Leigh’s credentials, skill, love for the Lord, and heart for ministry are all exceptional.
Leigh has served churches in a variety of capacities in addition to music, including outreach, youth ministry, teaching Sunday School, leading community groups, and audio/visual ministries. He is passionate about worship and helping people grow in their knowledge of God and their love for Him.
Dr. Fleury said, “We are excited to have the opportunity to partner with First Presbyterian to minister to people in the Augusta area, and look forward to seeing how God uses the various facets of the Music Ministry to bring glory to His Name.”
A lover of the outdoors, Leigh especially likes hiking, biking, jogging, and gardening. He also enjoys photography, art, videography, reading, and spending time with his family. Leigh is married to Tacy, and they have three children: Grayson, Clara, and Marianne. Tacy is a voice teacher and gifted singer as well.
We thank God for bringing the Fleury family to First Presbyterian, and look forward to many years of fellowship and service together.
