A Prayer for Advent, for 2021, and for the First Pres Family

November 22, 2020 by Mike Hearon

Sovereign God and Heavenly Father,
I ask for our Savior Jesus’ sake,
by your Holy Spirit sent to save and transform us,
for you to create in your church a sense of hope and expectancy
for Advent 2020 and the year of our Lord 2021.

Give us bursting joy and unwavering hope—so much of your goodness
that we cannot even imagine what you have in store for us.

I pray that your vision for our lives will align our dreams and longings
with great and glorious God-centered hope.

Be pleased, our Triune God, to give us, your church,
a glimpse of your glory for the sake of thriving as your children,
for the flourishing of our city, and for the joy and salvation
of the unreached peoples of this world.

May we venture forward together, united by
your love, your power, and your wisdom.

May we depend on your promises more and more and
look more and more to your leadership and
less and less to our control and calculations.

In the powerful name of Jesus, Amen.

—Michael K. Hearon
