Presbyterian Peninsula

The Presbyterian Peninsula is leased from the U.S. Corps of Engineers and is maintained by this church for its members and their guests and for organized groups wanting a place conducive for meetings and fellowship. We strive to provide an atmosphere that will enhance evangelism, Christian training and study, and relaxation. We look to everyone to be good stewards of the property and to maintain proper decorum.

The Peninsula is available year-round for First Presbyterian members and their guests and to non-member groups with approval from the Diaconate Peninsula Team.

Facilities

• 55 acres with 2.3 miles of shoreline.
• Boat dock and ramp
• Clean restrooms with showers
• Pavilion with kitchen (seating capacity approximately 75). Refrigerator, freezer, stove with oven. Bring your own supplies including disposable paper products and trash bags.
• Field for sports. Bring your own equipment.
• Swimming area with beach and changing rooms. [See “Lifeguard(s)]

Registration/Keys

• Registration/key rental must be in person at the church office, Monday through Friday. Non-member groups should contact the church office for availability and registration form.
• Visitor registration must include number of people in party and a signed liability form.
• A certificate of insurance is required for visiting organized groups.
• The pavilion may be reserved for large group functions and/or special events with the approval of the Diaconate Peninsula Team (DPT). Such events include conferences, weddings, etc. First Presbyterian members may reserve up to 12 months in advance, while visitors can reserve up to 90 days in advance. There is a maximum of three weekend days within 90 consecutive days and no back-to-back weekend dates. Special circumstances could be approved by the DPT. When using the pavilion be mindful of the needs of others and share the space.

General

• Sign the Register. This is a Corps requirement. One person of a group may sign, the total number in the group must be noted.
• Keys. Members must be 21 years or older to use a key. Keys are not transferable to non-members nor outside the immediate family. All guests must be accompanied by a member.
• Pets. Pets must be on a leash at all times.
• Camping. Short term camping is available for groups with DPT approval. Individual families need only to notify the church office. Length of stay is seven days maximum.
• Boats. Boats cannot be tied to docks overnight unless belonging to short term camper(s) during their stay. No dry storage.
• Fires. No fires except in designated areas. Do not cut down trees for firewood. Only dead, fallen trees are available per Corps rules
• No alcoholic beverages, drugs, fireworks, firearms, or smoking. This is a church facility.
• Lock gates when entering and leaving.
• Lifeguard(s).  A certified lifeguard(s) must be on duty for anyone under age 21 for any First Presbyterian or visiting group sponsored function that includes or allows swimming and/or similar activities. The sponsoring group is responsible for having the proper number of lifeguards.
• Pavilion. Use of the pavilion is generally open to everyone, however it can be reserved in advance for special functions. See registration guidelines.
• No motorized watercraft allowed in swimming area.
• No diving allowed. The water is not deep enough.
• Dress code.  Appropriate dress is required at all times, including swimwear.
• Trash Disposal.  There is no regular garbage removal from the site. Please bring a garbage bag and clean up after yourself. The rule is very simple. If you bring it with you, take it home. Burning trash is not allowed.

Driving Directions

From Augusta, go west on Washington Road, through Martinez and Evans all the way to Pollard’s Corner. Go straight through the four-way stop and continue past Wildwood Park and across Keg Creek bridge. Go to the first paved crossroad, Ridge Road, and turn right. Continue past Damascus Baptist Church. Watch on the left for the large entrance of the Gracewood Hospital site. Presbyterian Peninsula is the very next road on the left, and is marked by a sign.
